Individual Psychotherapy

Because individual people respond differently to various therapeutic techniques, I approach psychotherapy as a collaborative process based on your specific needs and goals.  It is an interactive method that draws from several of the most effective treatment modalities.  Maintaining a comprehensive and flexible style allows us to purposefully address your particular concerns throughout the entire process.

Generally, we begin by exploring past and present relationships, as well as any significant events in your life, in order to gain insight and a deeper understanding as to why you think, feel, and behave the way you do. This is also important in helping to understand why others in your life treat you as they do, and why particular patterns of behavior continue to repeat.

Not only is it important to understand how and why maladaptive behaviors occur in the first place, stopping or reducing them is critical for continued well being. When it is appropriate, I might suggest specific exercises be applied and practiced that will help develop or increase your ability to modify negative patterns.

For some people, their spiritual beliefs and practices are an essential part of their healing. I am very comfortable with, and welcome, clients bringing their personal faith and practice to the treatment process.

Individual psychotherapy offers you an opportunity to be heard and understood in a safe environment with a trained professional who will guide you through the process of healing and self discovery.
