Frequently Asked Questions
Is Therapy right for me?

At some point in most people’s lives, things aren’t going the way they’d like.  Perhaps they’ve not been able to find the type of work that is satisfying. Maybe they wish to be in a happy committed relationship but are alone, or they're experiencing pain in their relationship.  Sometimes they are having difficulty adjusting to unexpected changes in their life such as divorce, illness, or work transition.  Or, they can’t seem to resolve an old conflict with a friend or family member.  These are not unusual occurrences.  However, if the negative emotions associated with these situations persist, and/or the ability to make the necessary changes does not occur, it is an indication that the problem will not just go away by itself.  A common feeling associated with this state is that of "being stuck".

Working with a psychotherapist can help provide insight, support, and new strategies for all types of life challenges.  Therapy is right for anyone who is interested in getting the most out of their life.  By developing a deeper understanding about what has occurred, creating greater compassion and self-awareness, and by taking responsibility - people can create positive and lasting change in their lives.

Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you've faced, sometimes seeking professional help is the wisest thing you can do.  In fact, therapy is for people who have enough self-awareness to realize they need a helping hand, and the courage to face their problems and take action.

What is Therapy like?

Every therapy session is unique and is catered to each individual/couple and their specific goals.  For more information on my approach to both Individual Treatment and Couple’s Therapy, please click on the type of therapy you’re seeking under the “Psychotherapy Services” section of this site.

How long does Therapy take?

The length of a therapy is very individual.  Sometimes I see clients for only a few months and others for several years.  It can be short-term, focusing on a specific issue, or longer-term, addressing more complex issues or ongoing personal growth.  For any therapy to be its most effective you must be an active participant, both during and between the sessions.  Of course, when to end therapy will always be up to you.

Will my insurance cover any of the Therapy?

To determine if your mental health insurance plan will cover any of these costs, the first thing you should do is check with your insurance carrier.  Ask the following questions:

Do I have any mental health benefits?
Does my plan pay for an out-of-network provider?
                    What is my deductible?

What is the coverage amount per therapy session?

How many therapy sessions does my plan cover?
        I
s prior approval required?

If your insurance plan covers any of your costs, at the end of each month I will provide you with a receipt to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.  I do not submit insurance claims directly to your carrier.
